Annie Peña: I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and came to this country in 1993. I work at CUNY/Hostos Community College in the Human Resources Department. I started visiting the Chapel of the Resurrection in 2004 when I moved to the neighborhood. I used to visit Resurrection sometimes as a regular parishioner at the same time I continued to visit my former church, Our Lady of Lourdes. In 2008, my faith was really shaken due to an illness, and I found a lot of support at Resurrection with Fr. George Kabiri. After my recovery, I realized I needed spiritual renewal, and I needed to give back to my community, so I joined the lectors in 2009 and shortly after, the Spanish choir. I also realized that the Chapel of the Resurrection needed someone to represent the community, to organize events and attend meetings, so I volunteered to do it. Nowadays, I help conduct the Spanish choir and continue to work hard for my church and my community. I’m part of the Decoration and Liturgy committees, and I also serve as a Parent Ambassador for the Religious Education Program.
