A Journey From Racism and White Privilege to Justice Reconciliation and Restoration in God’s House.
St. Charles Borromeo, Resurrection/ All Saint (SCBR) in conjunction with St. Francis DeSales and St. Francis Xavier, seek to further their commitment to explore, address and change how racism impacts faith and action among Catholics in the Archdiocese of New York. In the wake of George Floyd’s murder, Breonna Taylor’s murder, and the subsequent efforts to expose and address institutional racism, our parishes seek to implement changes in order to eliminate the vestiges of institutional racism within the Catholic Church.
REMEMBERING FR. RODOLFO (RUDY) CASALS, SJ
Fr. Rudy, was born in Yonkers, N.Y. before he and his family moved to Tarrytown where he attended Transfiguration school. His education ultimately led him to the Naval Academy where he earned a degree in Physics.
After returning from deployment to Japan, Fr. Rudy felt a calling to the priesthood. Through his vocation, he would teach physics to high school students, work with patients in hospitals, and work with individuals in prisons.
As a Priest, and although he had already earned a number of academic degrees, Fr. Rudy returned to academia, at Columbia University School of Social Work, to begin studies for the M.S.W. degree. He would aspire to a new ministry, working with and serving the Veteran’s Community, which was so very dear to his heart. Fr. Rudy did earn his M.S.W. degree but was called Home before his ministry materialized on August 2nd, 2022. He was 47 years old.
Fr. Rudy was a friend of C.A.R.P. and we are saddened by the loss of a true trailblazer who maintained such a humble and holy heart. Please take an opportunity to watch Fr. Rudy's comments during our talk on immigration and a closing prayer offered during the 2020 Pierre Toussaint Scholarship Fund dinner.
